About Us — The Nook Cottage, Wark

Come away to nature, peace, and tranquillity at an idyllic, self-contained stone cottage nestled in the heart of Northumberland, within a short walk to the North Tyne River. The newly opened Nook Cottage, located in Wark, has an impressive history. A stone building that once housed several horses and a wooden carriage later became a World War Two air-raid shelter. The original 1900s stone outbuildings were recently converted into one luxurious space that exudes elegance, character and originality. This intimate and cosy abode provides a refuge and escape to the countryside.

Charm can be found in the original stone walls, oak beams, woodburning stove, cosy furniture, and king-size or twin beds. Spend the evening stargazing from the private veranda with a fire pit, barbecue, seating, and plenty of warm throws — Wark is the perfect location for stargazing the dark skies. The cottage is warm, and the addition of a woodburning stove is a joy in the evenings playing a game of backgammon or chess. The comfortable king-sized bed can be converted to twins based upon preference (advance notice needed please). The bathroom has a spacious walk-in rain shower with a heated towel rack and a large light-up mirror. A well-equipped eat-in kitchen with state of the art appliances means you can cook in or venture down the road to the award-winning Battlesteads pub for a delicious meal. Private parking is in the driveway, next to the cottage and the lovely babbling stream of water that runs through the property.

Arriving By Car

Reaching The Nook Cottage, Wark by car is easy. Either coming from Newcastle Upon Tyne or Carlisle the A69 is a major route and will take you to Hexham. From there you'll take the A6079. (Look for the huge copper beach tree in the courtyard next to the Cottage).

The Nook Cottage has private, off street parking. We suggest pulling into The Nook Courtyard and then reversing into The Nook Cottage parking directly in front of the cottage main door located under the porch.

Arriving By Train

Major train hubs are Newcastle Upon Tyne and Carlisle, from there trains will run to Hexham. Then when you get to Hexham you can connect via a bus (see below) to take you to Wark Village.

Arriving By Bus

If you can make it your way to Hexham in Northumberland there is a local bus which runs regularly up to Wark. Major bus hubs are Newcastle Upon Tyne and Carlisle, from there buses will run to Hexham. Bus route and information: 680 - Hexham - Bellingham via Acomb, Wall, Humshaugh, Wark

The Nook Cottage has Superfast Fibre Wi-Fi connection, free to our guests. The Nook Cottage has its own private, off-street parking located next to the cottage front door / porch.

Check-in times and departure times

Check in times are any time after 3pm. If you need to arrive sooner or are traveling far and arriving late, just let us know. Further information is provided after booking confirmation. Check out time at 10:00am.

The Nook is a smoke-free establishment.

Dogs are welcome, however they are not allowed on the furniture or bed. We also request that they are not left in the property unattended.

The Nook Cottage has an outdoor dog washing area and cycle or waders/boots washing station.

We include towels, sheets & bedding and have for your convenience an ironing board & iron, a hair dryer, a fully fitted kitchen with kettle, coffee machine, toaster and all the pots, pans, plates and cutlery you might need. The Nook Cottage also includes a micro-wave & oven combo plus a full size oven and induction hobs, and a full-size fridge & freezer. A dishwasher and washing machine and two Smart TV's are also included.
